Matcha tea is a tea grown in various regions of Japan, a young tea, harvested approximately three weeks after germination and grown in low light conditions.
The cultivation method allows matcha tea to have a more intense umami taste than green tea, as its content of amino acids such as L-theanine and L-arginine is higher than in sun-harvested green tea leaves; as a result, its taste is sweeter and it is usually consumed without the need for sweetening.
